Sextant is a Shopify app that shows where a store’s products appear in Shopify Catalog search results, the product search Shopify provides to AI shopping channels. This policy explains what Sextant collects from a store and why.
What we collect
- Store access. The store’s domain and the access token Shopify issues when the app is installed, so the app can work in the store’s admin.
- Product data. For the store’s active products: product and variant IDs, titles, handles, vendor, product type and category. Sextant uses these to recognise the store’s products in search results and to suggest searches.
- Searches and positions. The searches the merchant chooses to track, and for each check: the position of the store’s product, and that product’s own price, stock status, description length and rating as Shopify Catalog showed them.
- Nothing about other sellers. Other stores’ results are fetched from Shopify when a page is opened and shown without being saved.
- No customer data. Sextant does not ask for access to orders or customers.
How we use it
Only to check and show the store’s positions for the searches it tracks. We do not sell data, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone except Shopify and the infrastructure providers that host the app.
Security
Data is stored on servers with restricted access. Our logs do not record request contents, and store domains in logs are replaced by a one-way hash.
Retention and deletion
- Uninstalling Sextant deletes everything it stores on its servers for that store.
- Shopify’s data deletion requests for a store are handled the same way.
- Because Sextant stores no customer data, there is nothing to export or delete for an individual shopper.
